The majority of our students gain places on competitive university courses of their choice. Along with university courses, some students choose to go on to study Music, Drama or Art at a conservative, drama school or art college. We also support students who opt for apprenticeships or apprenticeship degrees and each year we have students who apply internationally, including to universities in the USA, Europe and beyond.
Career and high education support is offered to each student via the Careers Department and our team of skilled Higher Education advisors. A structured programme of support begins in the Junior Sixth and continues until their destinations are confirmed at the end of Senior Sixth. We also support students who choose to take a gap year and apply to university or employment once they have left MHSG.
Every other year, we host the Futures Fair, where a range of professions and higher/further education providers are represented. This event is open to students in Year 9 and above and is always very popular.
Advice on preparing CVs and application letters, as well as interview techniques, is offered in our Well Being lessons, and in the Autumn Term we offer university interview practice to students who would like to participate.
Current students also have the opportunity to engage with speakers and mentors or enrol on work experience placements with the help of our extensive alumnae network.
We are enormously grateful to our former pupils who are willing to provide careers support to current students and those that are starting out in the workplace.
We are committed to ensuring that Manchester High pupils are aware of the breadth of opportunities available to them and feel supported as they pursue excellence within their chosen fields.
This scheme is designed to help Sixth Form students prepare for life beyond School. It is a forward-looking initiative, not simply about helping students go on to succeed in their university course of choice, but also preparing them for the working world. The scheme enables students to connect with a former pupil who will mentor them through making professional decisions, securing work experience placements and more.
The girls are often asked what they want to be when they finish university. While a number have a clear idea about the path they want to take, others are still weighing up a world of possibilities and it is important that girls understand both of these stages are just fine! Project Pankhurst is there to give our girls a steer and help them to make the right choices for them.
Mrs Norton, Director of Sixth Form Studies
